Inquiry Topic: Rock Pools

If we didn’t learn about our Rock Pools we might carry on polluting our waterways and rock pools and the water will be too poisonous for plants and animals to grow in them.  The water will become too poisonous for us to swim and play in. That would be very sad. We are making sure that we put all of our rubbish into the bin so that it doesn't end up going down our school drains, into the storm water and out into the Tamaki Estuary.

Saint Patrick's School Mass: A Combination of Recount and a Narrative Writing.

Wouldn't it be cool if the children of  Room 1 at Saint Patrick's School were filmed going to Mass today?  It would be super cool if the film was shown on Tagata Pasifika on TV One later today.  The journalist would read out their script. They might say, "The Mass was held at Saint Patrick's Parish Church in Panmure, Auckland. The Priest is Father Andrew who recently moved to the area from West Auckland.  The children from Saint Patrick's school sang beautifully and prayed respectively while attending Mass.  The School Principal, Miss Bullot, and the school staff guided the children through the Mass.  The Mass was a to celebrate the beginning of the new school term".

Being on Tagata Pasifika would be really cool because we remember when John Pelu came to our school and talked to us about how much fun it is to read, and it's really important too.  John Pelu is a presenter on Tagata Pasifika and we like watching him.

Today we used addition to answer our number stories.
1.  Sione and Desiree went to the shops.  They bought one packet of chips for $1.00, a packet of lollies for $2.00, a packet of marties for $3.00 and a bottle of mild for $4.00. How much did Sione and Desiree spend at the shops?

We said that we needed to add up all of the numbers in our number story to answer the question.

1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 3 +7
                     = 10

2.  Chester and Angelina went to the shops.  They bought one large packet of chips for  $10.00, one large box of chocolates for $30.00 and a super large box of smarties for $50.00.  How much did Chester and Angelina spend at the shops?

We said that we needed to add up all of the numbers in our number story to answer the question.

10 + 30 + 50 = 40 + 50
                     = 90

Queen's Birthday Weekend

It was the Queen's Birthday Weekend
And for most of the time it was sunny.
When I thought about it
The Queen having a birthday seemed funny.

Did she have a cake?
If so what kind?
Was it a bit like mine?

Did she get a present?
And did her family remember
To send it to her in time?

Did the Queen have a nice birthday?
And did the sun shine down upon her?
We all just want to say ...
'Happy Birthday'!

Munch And Crunch Poem

Today we wrote our class poem by using the rhyming words; lunch, munch, hunch and crunch.  We also know some more rhyming words.  They are; punch, brunch and bunch.

I like to eat
Apples for lunch.
I go goble, goble, goble,
Munch, munch, much.

I have a hunch
That you do to.
You go goble goble, goble,
Crunch, cruch, crunch.
