At play time I played at the park. I played with Sione and Kyle. We played hide and seek. We had fun.

Zip lining and swimming! By Summer

In the holidays I went to Rocket Ropes with my mum, dad and April. First, we went on the top and we swung down on the zip line until I got to the other side. I love going to Rocket Ropes. After zip lining, we went down to have lunch. For lunch, we had fish and chips. Mum said that I could have an ice-block after I ate some of my fish and chips. When I had finished my fish and chips I licked the ice-block until I had finished it all up.

After that, we went to the swimming pools. In the entrance, my mum paid for our tickets. Then, we went into the changing room to take a quick shower. I brought a towel with me so that I could dry myself after the shower. Next, I put on my swimming togs and took a dip in the water. I swam and swam back and forth. After time passed by, we got tired and changed back into our home clothes. We got into the car and went back home to watch television.

At the beginning of the the story there were three bears. Their names were Big bear , Middle bear and Little bear. One day Middle bear made porridge. It smelled delicious. They went for a walk in the forest while the porridge cooled down. While the bears were away a little girl went into their house. Her name was Goldilocks . After eating baby bear's porridge and breaking his chair she fell asleep in his bed. Later the three bears came home to find Goldilocks in baby bear's bed. Goldilocks . Goldilocks woke up. She got a fright and jumped out of the window and ran all the way home.

In the holidays, I went swimming at the beach.I went with my three brothers and Ronda.

We were swimming and then we were looking for some shells and seaweed.Then we dried our shells, then we went home and had a shower.The thing that I liked the best was when I was looking for the seashells.

In the holidays, I went with my mum and dad to my dad's rugby tournament. We go to my dad's rugby tournament every year.  We go to rugby games on Saturdays. My cousins, our mums and I cheer for them. Their team's name is Tongaleva. The team that they played against is called Toloa. 

The Philharmonia Orchestra

The Philharmonia Orchestra

On Wednesday we went to see the Philharmonia Orchestra in the Aotea Centre, in Auckland city.  We were lucky to be invited.  We went in the bus from school.  Most of our school got to go, except for Sister Evalesi and our youngest students.  

After we got out of bus we went inside the Aoatea Centre and lined up outside the door to the threatre.  There we lots of other schools there.  We lined up and waited for the man to let us in.  As we went in the theatre a lady told us where to sit.  We found our seats and after a while the lights were turned off.  It became very dark.  

First a man came on the stage and introduced us to the orchestra.  His name was Owen. The orchestra people played their instruments for us.  They played heaps of pieces of music for us.  We heard trumpets and trombones, and loud drums.  We also heard lots of other instruments.  Our favourite instruments were the trumpets, the drums and the trombone.  This first part of the programme was called Kiwi Kapers.  

The second part of the programme was called Te Manu Ahi.  The dancers lifted each other up in the air.  Some of the dancers spun around.  The music was fast, then slow, and then fast again.  The dancers were awesome! We would like to see them again.

Today we played Rugby League.  We played on the bottom court at school.  We had two coaches.  Their names were coach Matu and coach Paul.  First we played rock, paper, scissors, dragon.  I liked playing the dragon game the best because I got to run down the path. 

Next we played the game octopus.  I got to be a tagger.  I chased after Eliza and I tagged her. I ran very fast when I was a tagger.

After that we did some rugby kicking. We kicked the ball high into the sky. We did chip kicks, grub kicks and bomb kicks.  I liked the chip kick the best because it is like a rainbow.  I enjoyed playing rugby with coach Matu and coach Paul

Today we played Rugby League at the bottom court.  Our coaches were coach Matu and coach Paul.  We played Octopus.  I will tell you how to play Octopus.  First you have to pick three taggers.  Next you have to call people out to try and get to the other side of the court.  If you get tagged you have to stay still like a statue.  But if a person is trying to get past you, you have to stretch to the sides so you can get them out.  If you get them out they have to do the same thing.  I like the game because I get to run heaps.

We also learnt to do different kinds of kicks.  Their names were the grub kick, the bomb kick and the chip kick.  The bomb kick is very high.  The chip kick is like a rainbow, and the grub kick is when you kick the ball low. 

We also played rock, paper, scissors, dragon.  This is how you play the game.  You have to find a person to play with.  If you win then the person who lost has to go to the back of the line.  Then we all join up to make a dragon.  It is lots of fun.

Last week Room One played Rugby League on the bottom court.  We played Octopus as a group.  Eti and Oliver and Harley chased all the children.  They were the taggers.  When they caught me I had to freeze and become seaweed.  Then I was chosen to be ‘in’.  I was one of the taggers and I chased Summer.  I caught Summer.

Next we played rock, paper, scissor, dragon.  Eti won the game.  Then we played rugby kicks.  We did grub kicks, chip kicks and bomb kicks.  Bomb kicks were very high.  Grub kicks are low.  When you do a chip kick you kick the ball up like a rainbow.  My favourite kick was the bomb kick because you have to kick the ball up high to your partner.  Then we said thank you to the coaches.  I like playing rugby kicks.

Today we played Rugby League at the bottom court.  We had two coaches.  Their names were coach Matu and coach Paul. 

First we played a game called Octopus When we played Octopus we had to run to the other end of the court without getting tagged.  I didn’t run fast and I didn’t run slow, instead I jogged to the other end of the court.  When I got tagged I had to freeze and become a seaweed.  Seaweed people have to stretch their arms and try to tag other people who are running. 

Then we played a game of rock, paper, scissors, dragon.  Eti won twice so she got to be the head of the dragon.

After that we learnt how to do some different rugby kicks.  First we did a bomb kick.  A bomb kick is a high kick.  Then we did a chip kick.  It looks like a rainbow.  Then we did a grub kick which is a low kick.  I had a lot of fun learning new rugby skills. 

I like playing rock, paper, scissors, dragon the best.

Today we had Rugby League at the bottom court, outside Room 8.  I missed the Rugby League game last Friday because I was sick.  Our coach was called coach Paul.  Coach Paul bought his bag with his balls and cones.  His bag was dark blue and black.

First we did a warm up game called rock, paper, scissors, dragon.  Eti won the game.  Then we played it again and Eit won again and so she got to be the head of the dragon. 

Next we played Stuck in the Mud.  There were three taggers in the game.  If you got tagged you had to freeze.  I was one of the taggers in the third game.  I ran fast and tagged lots of people.  To untag a person you push the person’s hand down.

After that we got into teams and played relays.  I was a team leader.  There were five people in my team.  Their names were Summer, Bryan, Harley, Kena and me.  We played several relay games.  In one game we ran with the ball to the cone and did a side step and a spin.  In another game we ran to

the cone and did five star jumps.  Then after that we ran to the cone and did a goose step.

Today we played Rugby League at the bottom court.  We had two coaches.  Their names were coach Matu and coach Paul.  They were really awesome.  They play for the Warriors. 

Coach Matu and coach Paul taught us lots of things.  The first thing that we played was rock, paper, scissors, dragon.  We had to compete with our partner.  We call that versing each other, and if you get everyone you win, and I won.

Then Coach Matu and coach Paul taught us how to play Octopus.  We had three taggers.  The taggers were Oliver, Bryan and me. Some of the taggers were fast and some were slow.    When I was a tagger I ran very fast and I caught a lot of people.  When they were tagged they were called seaweed.  They had to stand in one place.  They had to stretch and wiggle their hands to tag other people.  We tagged Elisha, Harley, Fulila and Kena.  Then we had a new winner and it was Summer.  We all clapped for her.  Then we played again and there were three new taggers.  They were Fulila, Christopher and Harley.  They tagged Elisha, Kena, Bryan and me.  Oliver was the winner. 

My favourite part, that I liked the best, was when we played stuck in the mud and it was fun.  I will tell you how to play this game another day.

Last week Room One played Rugby League on the bottom court.  Our coaches were coach Matu and coach Paul.  They taught us to do a grub kick.  With the grub kick I had to point the ball towards the ground before I kicked it.  Then my partner had to try to catch it.  I kicked the ball and my partner caught it.  Then I had to do the same with my partner. 

The next game they taught us was the bomb kick.  With the bomb kick I had to kick the ball high.  We learnt how to kick the ball very high and it was fun.  Our next game was called the chip kick.  With the chip kick we were supposed to kick the ball like a rainbow.  That was as much fun as doing the bomb kick. 

The last game that we played was called the Octopus game.  The coaches chose some children to tag us.  The rest of us had to run down to the other end of the court.  If we got tagged we froze and became seaweed.  That game was fun too.

Today we played Rugby League on the bottom court.  Coach Matu and Coach Paul taught us how to play Rugby League. 

First we played Octopus.  There were three taggers and if you got tagged you had to stand still.  Then you stretched out your hands and tried to tag other people. 

Next we did bomb kicks.  A bomb kick is when you kick the ball up high.  Then we did a chip kick.  A chip kick is when you kick the ball up high and someone catches it.  You kick it to a partner.  My partner was Oliver.  I caught the ball when Oliver kicked it.  I kicked the yellow ball to Oliver.  It went very high. 

After that we played grub kick.  That is when you point the ball at the ground and then we kick it low.  I jumped over the yellow ball and it was low.  Then I kicked it high. 

Then we said thank you to our coaches and went to class.  Rugby League is cool.

Today we played Rugby league.  We were on the bottom court outside Room 8.  We had coach Matu and coach Paul. They were cool.  First we did some running then we played the game rock, paper, scissors, dragon.  Next we kicked the ball to our partner.  My partner was Bryan.  We did low kicks and high kicks.  The high kicks were called bomb kicks.

Later we played Octopus.  The coaches showed us how to play.  First the coaches chose three people to be the taggers.  The taggers had to tag the other children.  If you get tagged you have to become seaweed.  When you are seaweed you have to stand still and stretch out your arms to tag the other children. 

My favourite game was rock, paper, scissors, dragon because we got to join together and become a dragon.

Today we played Rugby League on the big bottom court.  Our coaches were Matu and Paul.  Coach Matu and coach Paul brought lots of balls in a huge red and blue mesh bag.  First we jogged around the court to warm up.  Then we played octopus. 

Next we learnt about some different kinds of kicks.

We learnt about a bomb kick.  A bomb kick is when you kick the yellow rugby ball up high in the sky.  A chip kick is when you kick the ball up high and then your partner catches the ball.  Oliver was my partner.  He was really funny because when we played the game called rock, paper, scissors, dragon Oliver was slow doing the rock, paper, scissors, and I did it fast.  I won the game.

Later coach Matu and coach Paul taught us to spin with the ball while running.  We raced at the same time.  It was very cool because I could run very fast.  It was fun at rugby league.

Today we played Rugby League at the bottom court.  Our coaches were coach Matu and coach Paul.  We did bomb kicks with a partner.  We also did grub kicks and chip kicks.  Bomb kicks were the highest kicks, chip kicks were a little bit lower and the grub kicks were the lowest.  In grub kicks you kick the ball across the ground.  Next we played the game rock, paper, scissors, dragon and the game octopus.  I liked playing rock, paper, dragon, scissors because we got to make a big dragon out of people. 

After that we played octopus.  In octopus there were three taggers.  When you get tagged you are a seaweed.  The seaweed people have to stay in one place and stretch their arms out to tag other people.  Rugby league was cool, fun and fabulous.

Results
We found out lots of interesting things about minibeasts when we  
did our habitat experiment. We found out that minibeasts do not 
like living under cellophane, blue nylon material, ice cream lids or
netting nylon cloth. We think that may be because it is too hot for 
them.
Worms, slugs and ants liked living under the plywood tile, paper 
and the bucket. We also found a slug under the small piece of cardboard and some more slugs under the puka tree leaves.  Sandflies 
like living under the lino.

There were caterpillars under the paper and a daddy long legs
spider under the plastic ice cream container. We also found a 
different type of spider under the puka tree leaves along with a 
moth, a ladybird and some ants.

Conclusion
We concluded that minibeasts can be found living in many different types of habitats.

Today we had Ripper Rugby.  Coach Curtis came to teach us.  We played Octopus.  There were three taggers who tried to tag us.  When I got tagged I became a piece of seaweed.  I stretched out my arms and tried to tag other people.  Next we were in teams.  We did side stepping, spins and goosey.  We played these games to get better at playing rugby.  Eti, Kena, Roneeza, Kevin and George were in my team.  My favourtie part was playing zig zag in my team.

Book Review about 'Charlie', written by Richard Vaughan and illustrated by Bryan Pollard.

Book Review about 'Charlie', written by Richard Vaughan and illustrated by Bryan Pollard.

The main character in this book is Charlie.  Charlie is a cloud.  In the beginning of the story Charlie is trying to get people's attention.  He does this by performing lots of tricks in the sky such as turning himself into a rocket ship shape spiraling in the sky, and writing his name up high in the sky.  But nobody noticed him.  Even when the other clouds went by Charlie they did not notice him.  This made Charlie feel very sad.  Then one day the strong wind carried Charlie a long way out to sea.  While out at sea Charlie took a big drink of water.  The water made him get bigger.  Charlie kept on drinking and getting bigger.  

Charlie hoped that now he was bigger people would take notice of him, and they did.  He was so big that the people and the birds were afraid of him.  Charlie shouted to the people not to run away because it was him.  It was just that he had got bigger. 

Now that he was bigger Charlie's voice sounded loud like thunder, and his big belly made lightening as it touched the tops of the mountains.  He was cold and lonely, and he began to cry.  As he cried the water left his body in his tears and he got smaller.  

After that Charlie was tired and so he had a little sleep.  Then all of a sudden someone noticed him.  They told other people to look at the beautiful cloud, and they did.  The people,the birds, the animals, the mountains and the sun thought that he was so beautiful that they smiled at him.  They all liked Charlie the way he was.  He didn't have to do anything special because he was already beautiful being himself.  

We liked this story because it reminded us that God made Charlie and us.  Also, that just like Charlie, we are beautiful the way we are.

My Family

My Family

In the holidays I mostly stayed at home.  One night my brother and his family came to stay for a sleepover.  My brother’s name is Sefo.  He came with his girlfriend.  She is called Seta.  Sefo brought my niece and nephew over too.  They are Sefo’s son and daughter.

My niece’s name is Nia.  She is named after my mum.  Nia is only little.  She is still a baby.  My nephew’s name is Isaac.  Isaac is only 2 years old.  He is still young.  He is younger than me. 

They all had a sleep over.  This was because it is going to be my brother’s birthday next week.   He is going to have a party.  It is going to be cool because all of my family are going to be there.

The Smurf Movie

The Smurf Movie

In the holidays I watched a fantastic movie.  It was called The Smurfs.  I watched it at home with my mum, my dad and my sisters. 

The main character in the movie was a blue girl Smurf.  Her name was Smurfette.  There were lots of other Smurfs in the move too. 

In the beginning of the movie Smurfette got a new sister and a new brother.  Together they celebrated Smurfette’s birthday.  They sang happy birthday to Smurfette and they ate some birthday cake.

In the movie a bad man called Gargamal made some bad Smurfs.  In the middle of the movie a bad girl Smurf tried to capture Smurfette by taking her into the water.  Smurfette managed to get out of the water but Gargamal got her. 

At the end of the story the good people and the good Smurfs saved Smurfette by breaking the blue things that powered Gargamal’s wand.  Then they all celebrated Smurfettes birthday again.  It was a fun movie and it was a family movie.

In the holidays I went to my cousin’s birthday party.  His name is Joey.  He turned 7 years old, so he is older than me.  Joey’s birthday party was in our church hall. 

A lot of people came to Joey’s birthday party.  There was my nana, my auntie Vanessa, and my mum.  My mum’s name is Natasha.   Lots of my family were at Joey’s birthday party. 

First we ate birthday cake.  It was a chocolate and strawberry cake.  It was decorated with strawberries and it had an angel on top of it.  It looked very pretty.  It tasted like strawberries and it was yum.

Next we watched a movie.  The movie was about a dragon.  The dragon was called Joey.  It had a sad ending because the dragon died at the end of the movie. 

After the movie I gave Joey his present.  I gave him a doll’s house.  It had dolls inside it.  They were little dolls.  Joey said, “Thank you”, to me.  Joey liked his present.

Later we went to McDonalds and ate and played.  After that we went to the park to play some more.  Then we went home.  It was a fantastic day.

My Family Feast

My Family Feast

In the holidays I went to my family’s feast.  It was at my nana and grandpa’s house.  My whole family was there.  It was cool going to visit my nana at her and grandpa’s house. 

I went with my mum and dad.  Some of my aunts, uncles and cousins were there.  There were just my dad’s brothers and sisters.  There was no one from my mum’s side of our family.

After we arrived I went and hugged my nana.  I love her a lot and she loves me.  Then I went outside to play hop scotch with my cousins.  Their names are Mario, Kava, Liston, Sione, Patricia, David and Dora. 

Later my cousin David lent me his toy gun.  I shot the gun up and I shot the gun down.  I aimed it at the tree.  It shot darts with sticky things on the end of them. 

Then we went inside to eat some food.  We ate barbequed chicken, sausages and fish.  It tasted really good.  Everyone was quiet as we ate.  After we had eaten I went home with my mum and dad.  I wasn’t tired and I wanted to stay with my nana, because I love my nana.

In the holidays dad and I went to the movies.  The movie that we saw was called ‘The House of Magic’.  We saw the movie at Hoyts Cinema, which is at the Sylvia Park Shopping Mall.

At the beginning of the movie a cat was thrown out of a big truck on the road by its’ owner.  The cat was a girl.  Her friend the dog came along and said, “Are you lonely?”  The cat said, “Yes I am lonely”.  Later the cat saw an old house.  It looked very spooky.  The cat saw two doves.  They flew into the top window of the old house.

In the middle of the movie the cat went into the window of the spooky house by climbing up the tree.  Then she heard a man in the house.  It was the Magic man and he was telling a story to some toys.  The toys were alive. The Magic man’s name was Mathew.  Next the man saw the cat and he named her Thunder.  He gave her that name because the cat was afraid of the thunder outside.

Later Mathew tried to destroy his house because he was allergic to cats.  He used a crane with a large ball at the end of it to break his house.  Thunder saved the house.  She did this by hanging onto the ball of the crane.  The house was only broken a little bit.

At the end of the movie Mathew fixed the house.   Mathew put up with his allergy to cats. The cat lived happily in the old spooky house with a mouse and a rabbit.  Mathew visited them sometimes.
